The Existential Question: Why Am I Here?
This question quickly leads to more:
What is the purpose or meaning of my life?
Am I living it?
Why am I here– in this location, in this time, with these people, on this planet, and specifically, here on Substack?
It might sound like an unrelated leap from the meaning of life to being here on Substack but, in my efforts to be more concise in my thinking (read: to kill the overwhelm of overthinking), the jump felt necessary and sensible.
My starting question for this piece was: Why am I here on Substack?
That’s the main point of this post–but it led me right into the deeper existential questions:
Why show up anywhere?
Why do anything?
I’ve asked myself this question about Substack more than once– here, a space filled with thoughtful writers who seem to genuinely love writing.
Me? I don’t love it. But I do love sharing ideas and sparking inquiries that stir something real. I love inviting people into deeper connection with themselves– and with others. I love offering support that helps lift the veil of unconscious limitations.
How I chose Substack is not the point. I found myself here and made a commitment to myself to show up bi-weekly. Not for perfection but for consistency. To learn what it has to teach me as I grow in my passion for helping people live powerfully in their Truth. To build connections. To offer inspiration for those who are seeking…..what I deliver.
That’s why I’m here.
Still, I’ve questioned it. Minimal engagement. Uncertain reach.
If writing is not my strength, does it limit my effectiveness? In a community of brilliant writers– some of whom have openly bristled at people who offer services rather than “art”, I sometimes wonder……
Aren’t we all offering something?
A poem. An insight. A bit of encouragement. A reflection.
We’re here to connect.
And that, I believe, is also why we exist on this planet.
To help people return to their Truth. To peel back their own masks and receive support in reclaiming who they truly are.
It’s my answer to both questions–
Why am I here on this planet? Why am I here on Substack?
For truth. For connection. For showing up to learn, play, and grow– even when I don’t have all the answers.
And so, I continue to show up. 🙋🏻♀️
Uncertain and open-hearted. ❤️
How about you? Why are you here?
I’d genuinely love to know– on Substack, or in life. Feel free to drop a comment. Let’s connect!
